Hopi Red Dye Amaranth
One of the deepest red greens we’ve seen. This burgundy-red amaranth is heat- and drought-tolerant (like all amaranths) making it a great choice for sowing in the summer. Add to baby lettuce with other heat-tolerant greens for a great mix. This amaranth will grow very tall and produce long, plumed seed heads. The dark seeds are edible and nutritious as well. The “dye” in the name references this plant’s use as a food dye. Traditionally used in Hopi cuisine to color piki bread. Â
